John Kerry: No Civilized Country Should Shirk Its Responsibility to Help Fight ISIS

In a New York Times Op-Ed titled “To Defeat Terror, We Need the World’s Help” (Aug. 29, 2014), the secretary of state of the United States called for the creation of “a global coalition using political, humanitarian, economic, law enforcement and intelligence tools to support military force” to confront the “nihilistic vision and genocidal agenda” of the “Islamic State in Iraq and Syria” (ISIS). In his view,

no decent country can support the horrors perpetrated by ISIS, and no civilized country should shirk its responsibility to help stamp out this disease.”
